A Chris Camilleri goal on the stroke of half time is enough for the Tigers to beat Qala Saints, to progress to the next round of the G.F.A. Cup where they now face Nadur Youngsters on Saturday 29th October.

For this match, Xewkija's coach decided to rest a number of key players and giving younger players a chance to show their talents. Hence the debuts of Gennaro Hili and Fabian Xuereb, starts for Carlton Mifsud and the returns of Josmar Vella (from injury) and Jonathan Xuereb (personal reasons).

Xewkija started the match on a positive note and on the 5th minute a volley from Franklee Galea ended just wide following a cross from the right from defender Josmar Vella.  Two minutes later Chris Camilleri tried his luck from outside the box, but his effort failed to trouble Qala's goalie Mizzi.  On the 12th minute a cross from the right by Paul Rapa found Mark Camilleri who chested down to Chris Camilleri whose first timer shot was saved in two attempts by Mizzi.  After a difficult start, Qala seemed to settle and started putting Xewkija in difficulty and went close in taking the lead on 41 minutes when Christian Portelli's shot was saved into a corner by goalie Xuereb. Qala kept insisting and from the resultant corner, Xuereb was once again on the alert clearing away the danger.  However the Tigers managed to took the lead on the stroke of half time when Paul Rapa opened play on the left to Mark Camilleri who beat a defender and let fly a cross on the second post which met Chris Camilleri who headed in an empty net to put Xewkija in front.

The second half opened in the same manner with Xewkija trying to end matters and went close on 57 minutes when Gennaro Hili dribbled past a couple of Qala defenders before letting by and left footed shot which was saved into a corner by goalie Mizzi.  On 71 minutes substitute John Camilleri failed to capitalize from a fast taken free kick by Chris Camilleri, lobbing the ball wide from goal with goalie Mizzi beaten.  As in the first half, as time passed by, Qala seemed to settle more and attacked with much more insistency and on 82 minutes Xewkija's goalie Xuereb was called to make the save of the match, which kept the Tigers in the lead, when Qala's Portelli shot from inside the box pulling out the best out of Xuereb who deflected into a corner.  The last two actions of the match fell into Xewkija's feet when on 88 minutes John Camilleri's effort on goal was weak and did not trouble goalie Mizzi and a minute later Chris Camilleri's shot from outside the box whistled the right post with goalie Mizzi beaten.
